What it won't do

  • Give legal advice or tell you what a clause means.
  • Price your work. The numbers are the ones you put in.
  • Respond to a claim someone else served on you, or advise on a dispute.

Templates and calculations only — not legal, financial, safety or professional advice. Check everything against your contract and the law, or get advice, before you rely on it. Footing isn't responsible for how it's used.

Straight answers

Which Act covers progress claims in SA?

The Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2009 (SA). It sets the rules for payment claims and payment schedules on construction work in South Australia. Your contract adds its own terms on top.

When does the payment schedule have to be given in SA?

Within a number of business days of the claim being served, set by the Act and your contract. Business days leave out weekends and public holidays. Put your served date in the calculator on this page and it gives you the date.

Does a payment claim in SA need to mention the Act?

Leave “Include the Security of Payment Act statement” ticked and the claim carries the wording the Act asks for in SA, where it asks for one. Check your contract too.

Is this legal advice?

No. Templates and calculations, not legal advice. If a claim is disputed, talk to a construction lawyer.

Running more than a few jobs?

This makes one claim. Footing raises every claim on the job from the accepted quote, holds retention, puts the payment schedule due date on it, and shows what's overdue in one queue.
