The problem

You're not short on work. You're short on control.

A dozen projects, a stack of subbies, and the details living in texts, spreadsheets and someone's head. That's where the margin goes.

Variations vanish

Agreed on site, promised on a call, missing from the claim. Every lost variation is pure margin gone.

Blowouts show up late

POs, bills and subbie claims live in five places, so a job loses money quietly for weeks. You find out at close-out. Too late.

Paper chases every start

SWMS, inductions, tickets. Chased by text, signed on a ute bonnet, filed nowhere. One missing form stands a crew down.

And the software taxes you

Tradie apps stop at job cards. Enterprise platforms start at five figures. Both charge per seat. Footing is built for the gap between.

Command centre

One screen. Today's work, sorted.

Overdue invoices, quotes awaiting acceptance, today's field jobs, supplier responses, all surfaced as actions, not notifications. Each card has one verb: Open. No dashboards-of-dashboards.

Job cost control

Know the number before it blows.

Every job carries a live budget by trade. Raise a PO or book a bill and committed, actual and remaining move that second. Subbie claims track against their work orders, over-limit spend routes to an approver, and cash timing shows when you're fronting money. The view the big-end-of-town platforms charge five figures for.

  • Live budget vs committed vs actual vs remaining, by trade
  • Subbie claim register: submitted → certified → paid, retention held
  • Spend approval limits per role, with an audit trail
  • Pay-when-paid gap: see when you're being the bank

Works where the work happens.

The crew doesn't sit at a desk. Footing installs straight from the phone's browser, runs without signal, and gets out of the way. Three taps to clock on, two to sign off, one to file a photo. SWMS gates the job before anyone swings a hammer.

  • Installs from the phone's browser, no app store
  • Works on site with zero signal, syncs when you're back

BYO AI

Bring your own ChatGPT or Claude.

Footing speaks MCP, a USB port for AI. Plug your workspace into the AI you already pay for, and it can answer from your real jobs, draft your paperwork, and chase what's overdue. Plain English in, work out. No extra AI subscription.

Try one. This is a live mock of a real session.

Two minutes to connect

  1. 1Open ChatGPT or Claude and add Footing as a connector
  2. 2Paste your workspace URL and API key from Settings
  3. 3Ask away. It sees your jobs, not anyone else's

Role-based access still applies: the AI can only see and do what your login can.

What's still outstanding from Northbank?

Northbank Homes has 2 invoices open, $16,240 total:

INV-0231Civic St progress claim$9,40014 days overdue
INV-0238Lot 42 frame stage$6,840due Friday

INV-0231 is past your 7-day reminder cadence. Want me to queue a reminder?

Reply to Claude…

What can it actually do?

The full workspace is on the wire: 82 tools today. Ask, act, or automate.

Ask anything

Every job, budget, claim, quote, invoice, supplier, safety form and timesheet is queryable in plain English.

  • “Which jobs are over budget right now?”
  • “How far has the plumber claimed on Lot 42?”
  • “Which accounts are overdue, worst first?”

Get work done

It can create quotes, invoices, jobs, POs and reminders: drafts first, sent only when you say so.

  • “Quote this takeoff and send the RFQ to both suppliers”
  • “Log 6 hours against the Civic job”
  • “Snooze the Lot 42 reminder to Monday”

Wire it up

Webhooks push events out (invoice paid, SWMS expiring, RFQ overdue) to whatever you script next.

  • Overdue invoice → message in the office chat
  • SWMS expiring → text the subbie
  • Quote accepted → job template spun up
Everything else it does

Can Footing actually do that? Yes.

Two dozen more, already shipping.

  • Automatic GST on every line
  • ABN lookup & validation
  • E-signature quote acceptance
  • Offline-first PWA for the field

How it works

One tool. The whole job.

Quote on Monday, get paid on Friday. Every step lives in Footing. No app-hopping, no double entry, no losing the thread between site and office.

  1. 01

    Quote on site

Build a line-item quote on the phone, GST and ABN auto-filled. Client signs with their finger.

  2. 02

    Schedule the crew

Put the job on the calendar. The crew sees it on their Today list, and the SWMS is gated to start.

  3. 03

    Run the work

Field techs work jobs offline-first. Photos, timesheets, materials and safety sign-offs, all in one place.

  4. 04

    Invoice from the job

Progress claim or full invoice, pulled from what was actually done. Stripe link auto-attached.

  5. 05

    Get paid

The Pay Now link closes the loop and payments land against the job. Two-way Xero sync is on the way, with CSV export in the meantime.

Switching from AroFlo?

Switch in a weekend.

Switching tools usually means losing your history. Not here. Free AroFlo migration is built into onboarding: one click and your data comes across with you. On something else? CSV import works today, with Buildxact, ServiceM8, simPRO and Tradify importers on the way.

  1. 01

    Connect your account

One click during onboarding points Footing at your AroFlo account. Other tools export to CSV. That works too.

  2. 02

    Choose what to bring

Tick the records you want across: everything, or just the last few years. You stay in control.

  3. 03

    Watch it import

Footing pulls it all in and shows progress as it runs. Most builders are fully moved over a weekend.

Or run it yourself

Your data. Your server. Your call.

Most builders let us host it. But Footing is source-available, so if you'd rather run it on your own kit, you can. Same software either way, and your data is always exportable.

Got an IT person?

Send them the GitHub link. It's one command to install on a basic server. They'll have you running before lunch.

You build software?

Fork it, ship a feature, send a pull request. Same code we run for paying customers. No paywalled features, no premium tier.

Questions

Sensible answers.

When can I sign up?

Right now. Signup is fully self-serve: no demos, no sales calls. Create an account with your email, verify it, add your business details (ABN, GST, address), and you're into your workspace in a few minutes. Prefer to run it yourself? The same software is on GitHub, ready for your own server.

How does the free trial work?

Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, no card required. Kick the tyres on your real projects, and if it's not for you, walk away having paid nothing. After the trial, plans start at AU$129 per month (ex GST) with unlimited users. Month to month, cancel anytime. One trial per workspace.

How does pricing work? What counts as an active project?

One flat monthly price based on how many projects you're running at once: up to 5 on Starter, up to 20 on Builder, unlimited on Scale. An active project is one you're currently delivering; completed and archived projects don't count toward your limit, and their history stays in your workspace. Users never affect the price: staff, subbies, clients, architects and certifiers are all free to add, on every plan.

Is it really free if I host it myself? What's the catch?

Yes, free. Footing is source-available: the full code is on GitHub. Run it on your own server (or hand it to your IT person) and pay us nothing. The only catch: you can't take the code and launch your own competing hosted Footing service for two years. After that, even that restriction lifts. Nothing in the license stops you using it to run your own building business, forever.

How does switching from AroFlo work?

The AroFlo migration is free on every plan and built into onboarding: one click and Footing pulls your clients, sites, jobs, quotes, invoices, POs, timesheets, documents and site photos across. A full 5-year history takes about an hour; most builders switch over a weekend. If anything doesn't come through cleanly, we'll bring it across by CSV. Coming from Buildxact, ServiceM8, simPRO or Tradify? CSV import works today, and one-click importers for those are on the roadmap.

Can my whole team use it?

Yes, and it costs nothing to add them. Users are unlimited on every plan: office staff, supervisors, field crew, subbies, clients, architects, certifiers. Invite people by email during setup (or later from settings), each with a role: Office, Technician, or Contractor. Access follows the role, so subbies only see the jobs they're assigned to. Bigger teams can organise people into crews (office, field, sales) with leads and members.

Can I see budget vs actual while the job's running?

Yes, live. Set a budget per trade when the job's won (it can seed from the quote) and every PO, bill and timesheet posts against it as it happens. Each line shows committed, actual and remaining, flags approaching or over, and drills down to the documents behind the number. Over-limit spend routes to an approver with a full audit trail, and close-out compares estimate to actual, line by line.

Can my client see how the job's going?

Yes. Send them a share link and they get a live, curated view of their job: current stage, approved updates, quotes, variations and the photos you choose to share. No login, nothing to pay, never your costs or margins. Subbies get their own scoped portal too, with their work orders and claims. Everyone works off the same picture without ringing the office.

Does it work on the phone? On site with no signal?

Yes. Footing installs straight from your phone's browser, no app store. Your crew can clock on, take photos, fill out forms, and sign off jobs even with no signal. Everything syncs the second they're back in range.

Does it handle GST, ABN and BAS properly?

Yes. GST goes on every line automatically. ABN lookups validate against the ABR. Invoice numbering, BAS-friendly exports, AU date formats, AUD everywhere. Built in Australia for Australian builders, not US software with a currency switch.

Will it sync with Xero or MYOB?

Two-way Xero sync (invoices and payments) is rolling out. It's on the roadmap, not live on day one yet. In the meantime CSV exports work today, and MYOB is also on the way. Once it lands, your bookkeeper sees what site finished without double entry.

Can I use ChatGPT or Claude with my Footing data?

Yes. Footing speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol). The easy way to think about it: MCP is a USB port for AI. Open ChatGPT or Claude on your desktop, plug Footing in once, and ask in plain English: “what's outstanding from Northbank?”, “show me every job over $20k still in quote”, “draft a follow-up for the overdue invoices”. It uses the AI you already pay for, against your real jobs, no extra subscription. If you're technical, the same connection is a JSON API for your own scripts and automations.

Who's behind Footing?

A small Australian team, starting with builders in Adelaide. We got tired of paying $55 a head for software that still lost variations, so we built our own and put it on GitHub.

Build on a solid footing.

Get paid for every variation, catch the overspend before it happens, and switch off at night. Start free, no calls, no demos, no card. One flat price from AU$129/month after your 14-day trial, with unlimited users and no lock-in.
